American Freight Closing Its Doors

American Freight, based in Delaware, is closing all 370 stores and its corporate office according to recent reports in Columbus Business First.

“American Freight, a subsidiary of Franchise Group Inc., offers affordable, high-quality furniture, mattresses, and appliances through its direct-to-consumer, warehouse-style stores. With more than 5 million satisfied customers, American Freight has a strong legacy of helping customers save money since 1994,” according to its website.

American Freight has a strong presence in Delaware with a retail store on Columbus Pike (US 23) in the shopping center with Goodwill and the ReStore. Additionally, the brand has its corporate headquarters on Innovation Court off Sawmill Parkway in Delaware Industrial Park.

It appears that American Freight has undergone the same fate as Big Lots, another Central Ohio-based discount retailer that experienced amazing highs during the pandemic. Americans were locked at home and spent surplus money on upgrading their homes. Now as prices have gone up, sales have plummeted as the cost of business has spiked.
